Dr Sihem Lazreg currently owns and manages a private practice focused on treating ocular surface disease in adults and children in Algeria, and served as an Associate Professor at the University Hospital Mustapha Bacha of Algiers through 2008. Dr Lazreg obtained her Medical Degree from , completed residency at , and completed a fellowship at Paris Diderot university in France. She specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and ocular surface diseases. She is the leader on ocular surface in north Africa and middle east. Dr. Lazreg has authored many papers and chapters on ocular surface diseases such as severe allergies (vernal and atopic keratoconjunctivitis), dry eye associated with Sjogren’s Syndrome and graft-versus-host disease, and children’s blepharitis. After completing his training in the United States, Mr Daya was Director of Cornea and External Disease at the Catholic Medical Centre and in practice on Madison Avenue, New York. In 1993 he was appointed Director and Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon of the Corneo Plastic Unit and Eye Bank at the Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Trust, East Grinstead. Francesco Carones, MD was born in Italy in 1963. He graduated in 1988 at the University of Milan, Italy, where he attended the Department of Ophthalmology as resident. In 1992 he took a clinical training period focused on refractive surgery at Emory University, Atlanta GA, USA. Formerly he was Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Refractive Surgery at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, S. Raffaele Hospital, University of Milan, Italy. Now in private practice, Dr. Carones is co-founder, Medical Director and Physician CEO (Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. USA) of Carones Vision (formerly Carones Ophthalmology Center) at Advalia in Milan, Italy where he performs mainly cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Carones is involved in refractive surgery since 1989, when he started pioneering the use of excimer laser. He participated at several clinical trials, including the first human study on hyperopia correction using erodible masks. He explored the application of mitomycin C after laser surgery. He was among the first to have access to the tracker-assisted flying-spot ablation technology and to propose LASEK. Currently he is clinical investigator for major surgical companies. As for cataract surgery, he was the first to implant a toric multifocal IOL as well as a low power add multifocal IOL. Professor of Ophthalmology in the faculty of medicine, Ain Shams University, a fellow of the royal college of surgeons of Edinburgh and a consultant of phaco-refractive surgery in Al-Watany eye hospital in Cairo. Cataract surgery with premium IOLs is his primary focus, together with the implementation of Femtosecond laser technology, which consists of about 30% of his total annual volume of cataract surgery. He started to implant presbyopia-correcting IOLs since 2002 and has substantial experience in various designs of multifocal, new trifocal, and extended depth of focus IOLs. He has a particular interest in complicated cataract surgery with intra-scleral haptic fixation (ISHF), together with iris repair and different techniques of pupilloplasty.

Dr. Shady Awwad is an associate professor of Ophthalmology and the head of the cornea & refractive surgery division at the American University of Beirut Medical Center. He received his medical degree with the alpha omega alpha honor medical society award and completed a residency training at the American University of Beirut, and two fellowships in cornea & refractive surgery and ophthalmic pathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He is a Professor at Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, India and an Adjunct Associate Professor at MS Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore and is an Affiliate Associate Professor and PhD guide at the Maastricht University in the Netherlands.
